More About Pottsville

If you're looking to move to Pottsville, the city offers everything from affordable brick townhouses to (with homes dating as far back as the 1800s) to newer developments on the edge of town such as Norwegian Woods, Seider's Hill and Chestnut Hill.

If classic old mansions are your thing, look at Mahantongo Street and Howard Avenue. Those streets slope upward from Downtown Pottsville, and the higher you go you'll find bigger houses on wider streets.

Novelist John O'Hara memorialized Pottsville (he called it Gibbsville) in his novels and short stories set in the first half of the 20th Century. Pick up a copy of Appointment in Samarra or Ten North Frederick to see what O'Hara's "Pennsylvania Protectorate" was like a century or so ago.
