Reading

Reading is the fourth most populous city in Pennsylvania (after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Allentown) with just under 100,000 residents as of the 2020 census. The city is the county seat of Berks County. It is the center of the Greater Reading metro area, with a population of over 420,000.

In the area you'll find everything from brick townhouses to Victorian-style mansions. In the suburbs on the outskirts of the city proper there are quaint subdivisions with newer homes and convenient access to shopping centers and the interstates for commuting...

As one of the most populous communities in this region, Reading has a lot to offer prospective homebuyers. From beautiful, suburban family homes in quiet neighborhoods to low-rise condos close to the center of the city, Reading allows for a range of budgets and preferences for those looking for their next home.

A significant portion of the single-family homes and properties in Reading were build before the 1940s. Architecturally, the city encompasses a wide range of styles. These include Victorians from the 1890s (often well-preserved, but higher in price and very in-demand), brick townhomes from the very early 1900s, restored Tudor-style homes from the 1930s (although these are quite rare). The downtown area is a mixture of townhomes and multi-family homes (some of which are historic properties that have been converted into duplexes or apartments), as well as single-family homes. Reading is home to five different historic districts around the city.

While historic homes offer unique charm, moving away from the core of Reading yields never developments, specifically homes, townhomes, and condos that were built after the year 2000. A newer property means less initial renovations and updates, as well as larger property sizes. Single-family homes for sale are about 2,500 square feet on average, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, but there are certainly also larger properties available on the market. For families seeking a quieter lifestyle, these homes might be the best option.
